Poetry as Meditation

Call in the Muses!

Honor the words, and the space between them. Evoke a feeling, soothe a weary heart.

A note from me to you, as you consider your relationship with poetry and if this is for you:

I don’t love poetry, I love a poem.

I know little of poetry, authors, or styles.

All I know is that I love what I love.

All I know is that sometimes, the dance of language is enough to stir something deep inside me, evoke a feeling, call me into companionship, transport me to the faraway lands inside my heart. Show me worlds. Broken ones of despair, divine ones of hope.

A circle gathering to share poems as medicine for these times.

Poetry as a balm, a whisper, a guiding force.

Poetry as a gathering place, a warm fire to tend, a space for us to weave ourselves into the rhythm of voices, the cadence of our breath.

Let’s feel the magic of words and the space between them lead us into connection. Let’s feel them in our bones. Let’s read them to each other over a cup of tea.

Not a writing or poetry workshop, not analytical, not intellectual, just the warmth of togetherness. Meditation, Rest.

We’ll arrive into meditation, share poetry, dip into the wellspring of deep rest, and do a little writing, drawing from whatever is alive in the moment, wanting to be explored. A gentle morning (or afternoon or evening - check notes on time conversation below) in the spirit of Poetry as Meditation, poetry as the language of Greater Spirit and human spirit, both.

Come for inspiration, to steep in presence, to nourish the creative spirit, to elicit connection, or to lean back into the container of poetic expression.

You are asked to bring a poem (of any origin & style), and will have the option of reading it aloud. Feeling hesitation around making a selection? Send me a note after booking and I’ll send you one.

You are welcome to join with the camera on or off. Journaling is not expected to be shared with the group. This is not a gathering for intellectualizing or analyzing poetry, or a writing workshop. No recording is currently planned.

Following our session you’ll receive a collection of all the poems brought into our circle.

This gathering is by contribution. No one will be turned away due to the lack of funds. This model requires your honest reflection to be sustainable. You can learn more about why I offer sliding scale and some prompts for reflection on financial privilege here. A portion of proceeds will be donated to support Black or Indigenous led mutual aid / community care funds.

Time is ET / Cleveland / NY. Use this link to convert to your time zone: https://time.is/ (make sure to change the day to November 6 as this date is the end of daylight savings time in the US).

Registration is closed.
